Dear Philanthropy DMV members,
We hope your new year has renewed your energy and commitment to supporting the incredible work occurring throughout our region.
The Philanthropy DMV (PDMV) Board of Directors would like to share several important updates as we kick off 2024. These updates are effective immediately unless otherwise noted.
CEO Transition:
CEO Ruth LaToison Ifill and the Board would like to announce a planned CEO transition. Ruth will serve as Liaison to incoming board chair, Dr. Marla Dean, who, along with the rest of the Executive Committee, will support the staff with day-to-day operations. The Board is in the final stages of identifying an Interim CEO, who will then lead the organization while a search is conducted for the next CEO.
As CEO, Ruth played an important role in the growth of Philanthropy DMV. Ruth guided the organization through the tremendous challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, developed a new strategic framework, championed our organization rebranding effort, and built numerous relationships across the region. During her tenure, the outstanding PDMV team created opportunities for community, connection, and collective impact through programs such as the Healthy Communities Working Group, CEO lamplighter series, annual convenings, and affinity groups such as the People of the Global Majority Gatherings.
Dr. Marla Dean wishes to thank Ruth for her leadership in advancing the PDMV mission, particularly her passion for creating a more racially just region. “On behalf of the entire Board I want to thank Ruth for her contributions to PDMV and the region. We appreciate Ruth’s support to ensure a smooth leadership transition, and we wish Ruth all the best in her next chapter.”
Additionally, we are pleased to share that PDMV has secured the consulting firm of former board member, Celeste James. Over the coming months, CA James Consulting will provide PDMV with the strategic programmatic support needed to meet the goals of our framework. In the very near future, once an interim CEO has been identified, we will update members.
Board Transitions:
Kelly Lynch and Julie Wagner have completed their Board terms. We are grateful for their years of Board service to PDMV and the broader community and thank them for the gift of their time and insights!
Additionally, several members of the Executive Committee (EC) have completed their service in EC leadership roles. Heather Peeler (outgoing Chair), Amanda Andere (outgoing Vice Chair), Hanh Le (outgoing Secretary), and Crystal Townsend (outgoing Treasurer) will all remain on the PDMV board in 2024.
We are excited to announce that the following leaders will now serve in Executive Committee Leadership roles:
Dr. Marla Dean, Chair
Alexis Squire, Vice Chair
Caitlin Duffy, Secretary
A Treasurer and several new Board members will be selected by members at our upcoming Toast to Transformation event on January 30 (details below).
All outgoing Executive Committee members are working closely with the incoming leadership team to ensure a smooth transition of duties. The Board wishes to thank Heather and the entire Executive Committee for their tireless efforts and ongoing commitment to the advancement of the PDMV mission.
Looking ahead to 2024:
The start of a new year offers the opportunity to look ahead with renewed optimism, focus, and commitment. We are thankful for the outgoing leaders’ service and commitment to PDMV’s mission. We are also grateful for the new leaders who have joined the leadership team in 2024. We are excited to build upon the outstanding work of Board and staff to date, carry the torch forward under Philanthropy DMV’s new brand, and continue to support our members across the DMV region.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the Toast to Transformation event next week on January 30, which is at capacity, and look forward to others opportunities to connect in the near future. See more Philanthropy DMV events HERE.
We look forward to an exciting and impactful year with all of you!
In collaboration and solidarity,
The 2024 PDMV Board
